Angel of Mercy

Below are the two images I created as the culmination of my module on Religion and the Visual Arts. I would appreciate feedback on your insights and so forth as I need to write about other peoples' opinions of my work.

Please click on the images to see them bigger.
I will post my reasonings behind it at a later date. (Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to make the second image the proper width and you can't really get an idea of the materials - but hey ho!)

Angel of Mercy

Osama of Mercy?

I do not understand your choice of images!

I wonder, are you supposed to see the 2 pieces together? The first one made me think of 'Skellig' by Michael Morphogo...I like the idea (conscious or not) of using a tryptich - it connects with traditional religious art, but then the painting is more modern and stylistic. The wings feel feathery and 'living'; the body less so - more like a diagram showing how to sketch the body in proportion. Maybe it's a study in the creation of humans, who God designed...their relationship with angels, which is very variable in understanding? Does the man have a halo? I'm not sure. Is he holding a cross? A sword? He looks to be flying upwards. And the other picture...to some, I suppose he is seen as an 'angel of mercy'. It made me feel very strongly uneasy. How much a small alteration can change our perception. Lots of religious thought is about perception and interpretation, and to me, these pieces seem to explore a small part of it.

I've also just realised that the angel is holding a sword. Why is it that in the top image, this seems 'spiritual' and doesn't worry me (like the sword of the Spriit?), but in the bottom one it is a symbol of violence and terror?
